Event Description : WALK : Delhi By Foot (DBF) presents "Kissa-e-Hauz Khas: From Tughlaq to Tahiliani!"

Hauz-i-Alai or Hauz Khas...or HKV as it is popularly known today, is synonymous to Delhi's 'Glamour'...it is our city's hub of chic boutiques & latest fashion trends, fresh culinary concepts and innovative partying experiences, many of which boast a stunning view over a 13th century man-made lake and the 14th century ruins of a world-famous 'madrassa' (Islamic educational institution).

Yes, around 700 years ago, these dead ruins, which many mistake to be walls of 'some historic fort,' used to be a bustling centre of learning, theological studies and artistic inspiration. From being the water supply of the important 2nd fort-city of Delhi, Siri, to accommodating artists & researchers of the fallen city of Baghdad to crowning the glory of a pious, orthodox Sultan...From enjoying the genial climes of the lake & the prevailing peaceful political winds of that era to succumbing to the devastating sweep of the Turkish Amir Timur 'The Lame', this lake & ruined complex around it, have seen it all !

This walk will touch upon the past & the present of our beloved Hauz Khas; some tales of the Khiljis who constructed the lake and explore the life & times of Feroz Shah Tughluq, the man who built the 'madrassa', Tughluqian architectural elements, Feroz Shah's inquiring mind & his love for all-things historical in Delhi. We will then proceed to the nearby Humayunpur for a quick breakfast.

Come explore with us yet another group of romantic ruins in our City of Djinns and enjoy the same timeless breeze that some of the most brilliant minds did in the 14th century!

The presentation will be done in a mix of English and Hindi/Urdu.
