Event Description : FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO) will launch a nation-wide health initiative with a theme “Nurturing the Nurturer” with initial focus on  the breast, cervical and other forms of cancer related to women here on September 21, 2017.

The health Initiative being launched in partnership with Apollo Hospitals group has been designed to sensitize women about importance of screening for various types of women specific   cancers including breast, cervix, ovary, gall bladder, lung, thyroid and mouth.

Studies have shown that in India, One out of Two women diagnosed with breast cancer succumbs to it and every Eight  minutes, there is a death due to cervical cancer. This initiative is being launched to prevent every preventable death with thrust on screening for women specific  cancers .

Breast and cervical cancers can be treated and are conquerable if detected early, and this will certainly lead to a decline in the mortality, due to cancer.

“FLO, as the oldest women business Chamber, has contributed significantly over the last 34 years towards economic empowerment of women in India has taken up the mandate to assess the current state of cancer care for women in India and identify key imperatives and recommendations for industry stakeholders that will enable effective management of the disease over the medium term.” Said Ms Vasvi Bharat Ram, President , FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO)  

Smt. Anupriya Patel, Minister of State, Health and Family Welfare, GOI will be the guest of honour at the launch ceremony. Three inspirational women will be felicitated with the FLO Cancer Crusader Awards - Dr. Vijay Bharthi Rangarajan, Neerja Malik, and cine star  Lisa Ray during the event .
Ms. Preetha Reddy, Vice Chairperson, Apollo Hospitals Group and Dr. Sameer Kaul, surgical oncologist from Apollo Hospitals will grace the occasion.

A White Paper with Ernst & Young on “Expanding Cancer Care for Women in India” will also be  released on the occasion.

Dr. Vijaya Bharathi Rangarajan is the Founder of CAN-STOP (Cancer Support Therapy to Overcome Pain). Dr. Vijaya Bharathi Rangarajan is the Trustee & Director - Community Services at Sundaram Medical Foundation (SMF).  A Dentist by profession, Heads the Dental Department of SMF.

Neerja Malik, a double cancer survivor, works with cancer patients to spread awareness. She was instrumental in setting up the Apollo Cancer Support Group at the Apollo Speciality Hospital, Chennai. She is also the trustee of the NGO ‘Sankalp’ that works at providing free education to the girls. Her book , “ I Inspire” is her own inspirational journey.

Lisa Ray is an internationally acclaimed performer, philanthropist and star with a reputation for taking on challenging issue-oriented films.

In 2009, Ray attended the Toronto International Film Festival in support of her work in two films. The event marked an important public announcement, in which Ray chose to share her diagnosis of Multiple Myeloma with media and the public.
Post a stem cell transplant in February 2010, Ray is now cancer-free and working on her first book. In early 2011 she headlined the national ‘Make Myeloma Matter’ media campaign, filmed a 5 part series for TLC in India and is returning to the stage with Luminato’s ‘Taj’ opposite Kabir Bedi and continues to work in film and television.
