Event Description : BOOK READING "Christopher Kloeble: Home made in India"

Christopher Kloeble first visited India in 2012, where he met his wife, Saskya Jain, also a writer and daughter of German-Indian parents. Since then he spends half of each year in India.
In his new book, Home made in India: a love story between Delhi and Berlin, he traces what it means to commute between the continents: perceptive, amusing, and finely nuanced. There are clichés and stereotypes on both sides – Indians mock the Germans’ impatience and devoutness to rules, whereas the Germans often have a somewhat exotic image of India.
There will be two readings with Christopher Kloeble in New Delhi.

On Friday, 15 September he will read from Home made in India and talk about the people he has met and how he became part of his extended family.
On Saturday, 16 September Christopher Kloeble will be reading from Almost Everything Very Fast originally published in 2012 and again from Home Made in India. He will be in conversation with Indian author Chandrahas Choudhury (Arzee the Dwarf) about cultural perceptions and misunderstandings.

Christopher Kloeble is a German novelist and scriptwriter. He was writer-in-residence at Cambridge University (UK), at the Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan in Bangalore (India), and Max Kade Visiting Professor at Dartmouth College (USA). His debut novel Amongst Loners won him the Jürgen Ponto Foundation Prize, and his first screenplay Inclusion received the Asia Pacific Broadcasting Prize. In 2012 he published the novel Almost Everything Very Fast in Germany, which was released in the US in February 2016. His first non-fiction book, Home Made In India, came out recently. He lives in Berlin and Delhi.

Chandrahas Choudhury grew up in Mumbai and his native Orissa, was educated at the Universities of Delhi and Cambridge, and now lives between Delhi and Mumbai. His book reviews appear in the National, The Wall Street Journal, and The New York Times. He is has written a number short stories and his novel Arzee the Dwarf has been most successful in its German translation as well. His second novel Clouds will come out early in 2018.
