Event Description : "Wari Padavali Kirtan Ki" A musical narrative on Padavali Kirtan of Bengal

Padavali means a string of verses. Padavali Kirtan is the devotional music of the Vaishnava community of Bengal. The verses consist of well known Vaishnava poems, which celebrate the divine love of Krishna and Radha, and are musically based on Hindustani music ragas.
This musical narrative explores the journey of Padavali Kirtan.

About the Artists:
Surojit Sen is versatile singer from Bengal. His expertise lies in Padavali Kirtan and has under gone training under the Diva of Padavali Kirtan, Geetashree Chabi Bandhopadhyay from the tender age of 8. He has also undergone professional vocal training in Hindustani Classical music under Padmavibhushan Girija Devi and focuses mainly in Tappas, Chaitis, Jhulas etc.
Though born and bought up in a business family, he has always been in deep connection with his music since childhood and has been actively participating all around the country for the last 40years.

Accompanying on Mridangam is Sukrit Sen, Surojit Sen’s 22 year old son who is pursuing architecture but has been associated with tabla for the last 19 years. He has been accompanying his father for almost a decade now.
He also is passionate about his music and has received many accolades in and across the country for his rhythmscapes on his tabla and other percussion instruments.

Nicky Chandam is an emerging writer, poet, curator, producer and storyteller. She is an avid chronicler of arts through her photographs and words. Originally from Manipur, she is a now a Dehalvi after living in the city for more than a decade. She is the founder and director of Octave Foundation.
