Event Description : EXHIBITION "Whispering Torsos" a solo show by artist Kanchan Chander

A woman of present,  Kanchan Chander, creates expression though her drawing and painting on canvases, paper, mixed media and installations with a unique charisma to engage her audience.

She is not new to the contemporary world and has been written about and showcased by several renowned curators and art critiques. Collectors & museums have kept her works in their collection worldwide.

Such is she as a person: hear it from her fellow beings who know her closely and I have followed her as an artist for years and have silently related to them as thought provoking to the issues prevalent in our society.” - said Kiran. The highlight of the show is an installation she is making of paper collage on plastics mannequin torsos- very bold,funky and vibrant in colors. This full show is a mixture of mainly torsos-- in painting, drawing,mixed media installation and prints.

This show is a culmination of different works which are vibrant and refreshing arrested forms of the torso using different mediums so naturally. Her works resonate her style and all the tedious intricate detailing surrenders to perfection. Kanchan has been working on Female Torsos since past two decades. The earlier Torsos were minimal, monumental and sparse with decorative and embellished motifs. Later she started incorporating painted flowers, sequins and swarovskis on them. The present torsos are still monumental and at times crouched (perhaps with age and all the pressures and experiences she has encountered in her 60 years). Her pure paintings are full of textured lines—built by layers upon layers of paint. Yet at the same time her mixed media torsos are embellished with sequins, swarovskis, stickers, laces, wrapping paper and any found objects which she is constantly on the lookout for at home, on streets and local bazaars.

The journey of the artist is encapsulated in her ongoing timeline from where she began to how she believes in engaging her subject before breathing life in them with all kinds of mixed media. As she works, her thought process is more human and intuitive, ensuring all art elements – composition, tonality, lines, colour, mediums and placements are summarized with precision.
