Event Description : EXHIBITION "A preview to desolation" Curated by Premjish

“Don’t start with the good old days, but the bad new ones.” – (Bertolt Brecht).

The bad new days are our times, our last few decades, which are characterized by an unstable existence and precariousness caused by an unprecedented economic, political and social turbulence. A state of emergency which has dismantled millions of citizens from across the world, created unjust economic, social and gender disparities, and given rise to an atmosphere of intolerance which thwarts any form of debate, engagement and dissent: virtues associated with a democratic society. Historic amnesia is favoured over historic memory. This exhibition sees precariousness as a useful conceptual category to understand the cataclysmic contemporary climate; it enables us to plot the coordinates of this crisis and makes us see that these are political conditions generated by conflicts for power. 

Through this exhibition we attempt to show works which confront and respond to this situation. 

On show the works of the following Italian and Indian artists: Atul Bhalla - Beatrice Pediconi – Gigi Scaria –Giuseppe Stampone -Maura Biava - Sharmila Samant – Tushar Joag - Varunika Saraf
