Event Description : EXHIBITION "Crystal Cities" by artist Jagannath Panda

‘Crystal Cities’, is a solo exhibition of new works by Jagannath Panda. The artist is showing after a hiatus of seven years in New Delhi. Drawing from the tensions of urbanized environments, Panda intricately synthesizes terrains made of painted images interspersed with fabric collages and sculptures. Exploring foliage is a recurring motif in the works as they become signifiers of aspirations and utopia that clash within the chaos of the urban city. Animals become extensions of humans wherein they depict human psychology and behavior. Using simple and seemingly direct imageries portrayed in a naturalistic manner, Panda explores his concerns with urbanisation and dislocation, social and economic injustice, and shifts in cultural paradigms today.
