MUSIC : A tribute to Amit 'Papa Rock' Saigal by Parikrama, Tanya Nambiar, The Circus & Undying Inc.

Looking at the current music culture of indie bands spreading across the country, the urban Indian youth has slowly but surely acquired a taste for rock music and has developed an inclination towards exploring homegrown artists and bands. It goes without saying that one can’t help but think of the catalyst behind this monumental music revolution, the father of rock in India and the founder of Rock Street Journal Magazine; Amit Saigal. The original grand daddy of rock ‘n roll, Amit Saigal was a pioneer of India’s rock scene that he so lovingly fostered. As a rock musician and lover, he also started Rock Street Journal, the first rock magazine in India. Saigal, aka, Papa Rock had over 25 years of experience of music business in India and had been an encouragement to many emerging rock bands and musicians.

In a tribute befitting the memory of the legend, on Thursday, 6th July, antiSOCIAL brings together Parikrama, The Undying Inc., The Circus and Tanya Nambiar to celebrate the man who single-handedly changed the indie-rock landscape and help us commemorate his 52nd birthday.

Blazing through an explosive journey of 25 years, Parikrama stands strong as one of the most iconic rock 'n' roll bands in the Indian music landscape. With hundred more laurels under their belt, the chief one being a special invitation by the stalwarts Iron Maiden to open for them at Download Festival in the U.K., the band has maintained its reign over the other Indian rock bands.

Critically acclaimed and being known for making some of the most overwhelming heavy music in the country today, they have been described as a heady cocktail of Thrash, Hardcore, Groove Metal, Djent, Prog & just straight forward Brutal Death Metal. Undying Inc are an extreme modern metal act that believe in delivering an avant-garde combination of rapid fire riffs, massive breakdowns and technical prowess with a death metal technicality and shades of poly rhythm and math metal. Thus, creating a sound they proudly call their own!

Delhi's favorite rock band, "The Circus" is undoubtedly one of the names to rely on in the circuit. They have always fearlessly experimented with their music and have become one of the most loved bands to have emerged out from the Indian subcontinent in years. The band is savage, with their sound- vocals as unique as it can get, guitar attacks, bloody complex bass work and the grooves out of the drum machine.

The Delhi-based singer-songwriter Tanya Nambiar is a well-known name. Easily dabbling many jobs as an anchor, a voice-over artist, Tanya is known for her entertaining live sets, her music a smooth blend of blues, pop and rock 'n' roll. Having received many adulations from Indian and international blogs, she has her EP "Good Girl Gone" under her belt being the most recent one amongst many others.
