Event Description : THEATRE “Encounter with the traitor”, “Private audience” & “Tell a story” by Augusto Roa Bastos, Dramatised readings by White Noise Productions

About the short stories: Roa Bastos' short stories blend the present and past by creating scenes with myths from pre-colonial times (some of them similar to other Indian ones) and Christian legends, developing a special kind of Magic Realism. In these selection we will also listen other topics from his repertoire influenced by the war and political situation he suffered during his life.

Private Audience. With an agile and interesting narrative, Roa Bastos tells a simple anecdote with a conversational language. The story of a kleptomaniac during a private audience with a politician, for the approval of a social project. The project is very well received by the minister, but between the time he is in and out attending other issues, leaves the man alone on several occasions, without knowing his problem.
That is why, at the end of the audience, once the politician is satisfied, and arrogate himself the project, he discovers that his guest has something that does not belong to him.

To tell a tale, is an excellent example of meta-literature, in which an obese piano player whose words and silences compose a kind of verbal symphony, which goes in crescendo to the astonishment of all the listeners of the stories that narrates and that in his voice are intermingled but never repeated.

Inserting different times and voices, Encounter with the traitor reveals us the story, in a foreign street, of an old cause not redeemed. A random encounter that makes fate emerge showing the other side of the facts.
The stories will be read in English and Hindi, in translations by Alka Jaspal and María Ruiz de Apodaca.
