We are an arts no-profit-no-loss organisation Dhwani recognized by the Department of Culture, empaneled with Indian Council for Cultural Relations. The organisation has been in existence since1984. Dhwani focuses mainly on promoting cultural literacy through dance performance and performing arts education.

Under the direction of Smt. Vaswati Misra, Dhwani runs and administers:

I. The Pandit Shambhu Maharaj Kathak Academy :

Founded in the fond memory of Padmashree Pt. Shambhu Maharajji, Dhwani’s this wing is primarily involved in dance* [kathak]* and music [*Hindustani classical*] education. The academy hopes to bring forth new talent on the performance arena as well as create educated audiences for the future.

II. Srijan :

The Dhwani Repertory, comprising ten full time professional dancers and musicians. The repertory is a celebration of sound and movement drawing upon the dance form kathak. Their performances are contemporary, yet resonate with a long history of cultural traditions.

III. Manch :

Dhwani organizes various performances and events involving senior artists, presenting young and promising performers as well as creating specially designed thematic productions for ministries, corporate bodies etc.

From its very first three day festival Rasaarchana, presented at the Kamani Auditorium in 1986, Dhwani has continued to fulfill its aim of fostering excellence in the performing arts.

Who and what we are as a people is often defined by the word culture, an important component of which is our artistic heritage. Our cultural traditions confirm that we are a nation joined together much more than geography. Every realm of the arts in India points towards a common source whether it is the classical dance and music of our country, the concepts of street theatre, the martial arts traditions or ant other art form.

The organisation has performed at a number of major national and international festivals. Their tours have taken them to Bangladesh, Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, Surinam, Germany, Belgium, Ireland, Sweden, Denmark, Poland, Holland, Hungary, Switzerland, Italy, Morocco, United States of America, Japan, South Africa and Canada.
