New Text, a print and electronic publishing house committed to expanding equitable, open and affordable access to knowledge and books, was launched on 10 December 2016.
Two new books from New Text’s Firsthand imprint will be released. These are Amrita Nandy’s Motherhood at a Slant: The Voluntary Non-Mother and the Alternative Mother (co-published with Zubaan) and Manjari Katju’s Hinduising Democracy: Vishva Hindu Parishad in its Forward Journey.
Amrita Nandy explores the issue of motherhood, women’s choices and social conditioning. Manjari Katju’s book discusses the VHP’s journey in India between 1995 and 2014 and its engagement with ideas of democracy, freedom and religion to take Hindu nationhood ahead.
