Event Description : WALK : Sahapedia presents Exploring Qutub Minar Complex.

Exploring Qutub Minar Complex-A Historical Journey from the Ancient to Colonial Period

Qutub Complex has a host of structures known not only for initiating a new building style—a blend of Indian and Turko-Persian art traditions—but also for producing a magical effect on visitors by the beauty and delicacy of their workmanship and embodying the cultural ambience of that period. The walk focuses on the socio-political history of the Sultanate period and also takes you around Qutub Minar, the world’s tallest stone minaret; Quwwat-ul-Islam Masjid, Delhi’s first congregational mosque with an iron pillar from 4th century BC standing in the center; and also several monuments added later by the Tughlaqs, Khaljis and the British including tombs of Iltutmish, Alauddin Khilji and Imam Zamin.
Did you know, this complex gets more visitors than the famous Taj Mahal of Agra and was given the tag of World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1993? This historical site has stimulated many scholars to come forward with numerous interpretations of this historical period and also on the establishment a new political order taking over from the Tomar Rajputs and Chauhans. Come join the walk to solve the mystery of this site.
As a part of Heritage Day on 18th April, we are culminating our week-long heritage celebrations with this walk.
