A Dhoomimal Gallery initiative, Souza Collective is going to organize a special film screening, to remember Souza on his 93rd birthday. Titled as Progressive Artists Group this film was directed by K.Bikram Singh and produced by NGMA. Subject experts for this film include noted art historians and critics like Vinod Bhardwaj, Yashodhara Dalmia and Dnyaneshwar Nadkarni.

Event Description : EXHIBITION "Remembering Souza" on his 93rd birthday.
An exhibition showcasing the works of renowned artist over the years.The works will be followed up by a special film screening on PAG (Progressive Artists Group).

Francis Newton Souza the founder of the Progressive Artist's Group in 1947 is best known for his inventive human forms particularly the heads. As a strong mode mist Souza's early work made an impact both in India and abroad. His strong, bold lines delineated the head in a distinctive way where it was virtually re-invented the circles, hatchings and crosses. In later years his forms retained their plasticity but became less incentive. Apart from showcasing the original works by Souza, this space will also contain important books on the artist, an archive consisting of press releases from the artist’s past exhibitions held at the gallery, old catalogues, letters, rare photographs and films. There will also be limited edition memorabilia which include mugs, cushions, coasters, mouse pads, jigsaw puzzles, coloring books for children etc.

Perhaps the first of its kind in India, Souza Collective, is a gallery space, dedicated solely to the works of the Indian Modern Master F.N. Souza (1924-2002).
