Event Description : EXHIBITION : Delhi Blue Pottery Trust presents Annual Students Show of Contemporary Ceramics

Sardar Gurcharan Singh started Delhi Blue Art Pottery in 1952 in Delhi. Apart from producing tiles and jaalis to embellish buildings and bringing handmade glazed tableware to Indian homes, the pottery was the only centre for learning this art form. Numerous students have trained here and gone on to become accomplished potters in their own right. Proud of his students’ achievements Sardar ji promoted their work at any given opportunity, and in 1995, at the age of 99 years initiated the first students exhibition in Delhi.
In 1991 he founded the Delhi Blue Pottery Trust, to carry forward his vision of promoting  studio pottery in India.
Presently headed by his son and eminent potter Sardar Mansimran Singh, the Trust with its group of trustees continues to work towards achieving this goal. The exhibition will feature the works of the current students of Delhi Blue, who form an eclectic and harmonious group from diverse backgrounds. On view will be works in the common medium of clay, however the varied techniques and methods of decoration on display, being expressed in such unlimited creative ways, is a treat not to be missed.
‘Delhi Blue- a Memoir’, by Mary Singh, will be launched at the opening of the exhibition.
Mary Singh is an artist specializing in ceramics and painting. She is married to Mansimran Singh, and they live in Andretta, where they run the Andretta Pottery and Craft Society. She will be reading from her book at the launch.
During the event potters will be conducting  hands- on workshops and demonstrations
