While you feel the depth of these words penned by a young Shalini Singh, you could also view the colours that she spreads on her canvas.
Shalini Singh invites you to a debut solo show by the 25-year-old, curated by Rana Siddiqui Zaman, at Art Centrix Space, at Vasant Kunj. Singh works on mixed media on canvas, and ekes life experiences, spiritual and poetic, musical and mystical in her creations with unusual equipments of daily life. They become her tool to bring alive her emotions on them.

The works, mostly abstract in nature, range from mix of spectacular, bright hues to geometrical figures to aboriginal motifs. Daring use of shades with often non-traditional shapes of canvas bring forth her willingness to reach to viewers, critics and art lovers, with an open mind. The cosmic universe inspires her to capture its essence in the canvas. From mandalas to cosmic waves to celestial clouds, one can see it all in her works.

Shalini is a poet & artist both and this coming together of two varied creative aspects help her to further hone her creativity. Her art is inspired from her poetry and poetry inspires her to paint more. She is not bound by conventional style of painting with brush. Infact the use of brush is minimal in her art and she uses lipstick caps to toothpick to stone & pebbles as her tools and manifest inner emotions in unrestricted way. Her works also capture natural patterns & beauty of free flowing imagery. Says Shalini, ‘Nature in its innocence is my true inspiration as I have learned to explore the beauty of things taking its own course, unhinged, unrestricted’

A multifaceted personality, Singh is also a trained lawyer, teacher and an athlete. An LSR Product and hailing from a largely non-artistic family with few exceptions, and having lived a disciplined life, Singh’s person that includes her involvement in sports, academics and politics, have enriched her experiences which she pours into her paintings. She has therefore, interesting tales to tell about her artistic journey.
