Event Description :
DANCE DRAMA : AIM for Seva presents 'Antar-Yatra – The Journey Within' (An Annual fundraiser in association with Odissi Vision & Movement Centre)

AIM for Seva (All India Movement for Seva) is an integrated community development program, reaching out to rural and tribal children across India and manages over 100 Free Student Hostels in India. All proceedings from the sale of donor passes will go towards educating children.

Choreographed and Directed by Sharmila Biswas, of the Odissi Vision & Movement Centre, Calcutta, this dance-drama will tour seven cities (Chennai - Pune - Mumbai - Kolkata - Delhi - Bangalore - Bhuvaneshwar). Antar -Yatra gives the audience a glimpse to the inner world of the women dancers of India. Antar-Yatra is about their tentative journey, of conflicting thoughts and emotions ... in the magical world they believe in and create. Using Odissi, Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi, the performers attempt to capture the life and the artistic vision and the inner domain of the women dancers of India, from the past to the present.

“I am seeking to bring out the inner domain, the aatma speaking of course, from the point of view of women traditional artistes and taking recourse to three classical dance forms, Kuchipudi, Odissi and Bharatanatyam,” explains the choreographer-director Biswas.

Through the songs sung in six different languages; through three classical Indian dance forms; through the multiple voices of the narrator; through the art of puppetry and pinnal kollattam - Antar –‘Yatra invites the audience to travel between the real and the make believe, and interpret for themselves.

Sheela Balaji, Chairperson and Managing Trustee of AIM for Seva explains, “As dancers explore their inner domain space, every individual also needs a moment of introspection. There is a genius living within each of us and that genius drives us to follow and live our passion. At AIM for Seva, our passion in educating rural India was inspired by Swamiji. Our Free Student Hostels across India provide a nurturing environment and enable children from rural areas to flourish. This fund raiser is to support this cause”.

About AIM for Seva

AIM for Seva is a not-for-profit organization founded by Pujya Swamiji Dayananda Saraswati in the year 2000. It's mission is to make educational facilities accessible to the underprivileged children in rural India. It provides 360 degree support (24 x 7) for children to continue their schooling through Free Student Hostels (FSH). A Free Student Hostel (FSH) is a living ecosystem, an activity center, a classroom and a learning institute, all rolled into one. Essentially, an FSH empowers rural children to learn by providing a place to live close to schools; with a clean environment, nutritious food, value-based education, extracurricular activities and much more.
