Event Description :
TALK "The Katha Project" by Utkarsh Patel

The talk will discuss the two most popular Indian epics, Ramayan and Mahabharat and the many versions which exists across the Indian sub-continent.

The Ramayana tradition has enjoyed a unique popularity throughout the subcontinent of South Asia (comprising the modern states of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka) and beyond - for versions of the tale have flourished in Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, and Indonesia. Though it is not the same for Mahabharata, probably due to its sheer size and complexity, Mahabharat too has had its share of versions, especially with reference to certain episodes if not the whole text. The talk will aim to capture this diversity and will bring forth the many interesting versions and tales from lesser known cultures and continents through an hour long interactive session.

About The Katha Project: The Katha Project is an experimental project in the area of comparative mythology and ancient history. The Project’s aim is to bring mythology and history to life through the art of storytelling and narration.
