Event Description :
National Award-winning ceramist Sonia Ramaswamy Dhingra is back with ‘Woven Clay-2’, an exhibition that is focussed on platters with hints of interior design.

The exhibition is a culmination of every step, big or small, that she has taken to manifest her artistic potential. With nature, shapes and texture as her greatest guides, over the past few years, her aesthetics in ceramics have found a way to converge with textile imprints.
As a step forward from her last show, Woven Clay in 2010, Sonia has incorporated Kantha, Ikkat and Indian block print to create a collection of unique artwork.
She has always admired and associated with Indian crafts, and they continue to influence and reflect in her work. Her desire to work with local craftsmen and blend their art with ceramics also remains unchanged.
As a devoted ceramist, through “Woven Clay-2” she is determined to explore areas of interest and break new grounds.

About the Ceramist: New Delhi-born Sonia Ramaswamy Dhingra has trained under noted ceramists Sardar Gurcharan Singh, Bani De Roy and Rachna Parashar.
Over the last 16 odd years, she has participated in well-known ceramic shows all over the world. To name a few – the 13thInternational Mug Symposium 2015 at the Czech Republic; the Triennale at Karachi; the 2nd and 3rd International Biennial Exhibition of Contemporary Art in Shanghai; and the Gangjin International Celadon Festival in Korea apart from a host of others.
Sonia has received the National Award twice for the ‘All India Potters Show’organised by AIFACS, New Delhi. Apart from being an accomplished ceramist, Sonia who originally trained as a textile designer has held solo exhibitions of hand-printed fabrics in Mumbai and Delhi.
She also has to her credit, art residencies like the ceramic residency in Jingdezhen, China; workshops like ‘Story of Kantha’, projects on masks organised by the Crafts Museum, and mud-mirror craft from Gujarat with Vasant Valley School children.
