Event Description : 
DOC FILM : FD Zone Delhi presents A selection of documentaries produced by Films Division between 1950 – 1975, which open a window into the industrial landscape of new India and in particular express the State’s concerns around the figure of the striking factory worker.

Films : 

Man-Power Banks (English/1950/10mins) Dir.VR Sarma & A Joint Endeavour (English/1963/10mins) Dir.SNS Sastry 
Highlights the harmful effects of strikes and emphasises the need for settlement of disputes through arbitration and negotiations.

The Mica Miner (English/1963/9mins) 
Dir.AVG Tampi 
Shows the life of a Mica miner, and how the State attempts to improve his life.

An Assessment (English/1971/5mins) 
Dir.BN Mehra 
Deals with the present industrialization in Calcutta. Newspaper reports seem to suggest that the capital is flying away from West Bengal and creating a grave crisis on the industrial scene. 

A Few More Questions (Hindi/1974/9mins)

About the nation-wide railway strike in May 1974. The director personally interviews people across a section of society- workers, coal miners, railway authorities, executives in steel plants, railway commuters, and others to elicit their views on the impact of a strike.

The film introducing the viewer to the Tiruchi plant of the Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. Besides providing information about the products produced by this public sector unit, the film also talks about various labour welfare measures taken by the unit.
