Event Description : "The adventure of Alexander the Great in India. From reality to myth" a talk by Juan Pablo Sánchez.
Synopsis: After inheriting the small kingdom of Macedonia in northern Greece in 336 BC, Alexander the Great led his army against the powerful and vast Persian Empire, culminating his adventure at the banks of the Indus River. Until then, which contact had had the Greeks with the Indians?, what did they knew about its geography and customs? India, on the eastern edge of the known world, was conceived as a lush land, full of great people and amazing beasts. Such prejudices remain rooted in the Greek imagination and serve to magnify the legend of Alexander the Great in Late Antiquity and the Middle Ages, in works like Alejandríada of Walter of Châtillon or the book of Alexandre.
Language : Spanish with simultaneous English translation.
