Event Description : Opera At Habitat Series - Bizet’s Carmen, over 2 days. 

22nd April
Day 1-Acts I and II
Carmen tells the story of the downfall of Don José, a naïve soldier who is seduced by the wiles of the fiery Gypsy, Carmen. José abandons his childhood sweetheart Micaela and deserts from his military duties, yet loses Carmen's love to the glamorous toreador Escamillo, after which José kills her in a fit of jealous rage. This melodrama about proletarian life, immorality and lawlessness, is enlivened with some of the most memorable melodies and music in all opera, which has ensured its continuing, overwhelming popularity. The stellar cast under the direction of the legendary Herbert von Karajan includes great singers such as Grace Bumbry, Jon Vickers and Mirella Freni.
