Mr. Ramón Blecua Cultural Counsellor, Embassy of Spain has kindly consented to be the Guest of Honour for the evening

The Shringaar Rasa, the first of the Nav rasa to be described by Bharata in the Natyashastra, is the erotic sentiment and is related with all bhava’s and moods that are associated with the union of lover with the beloved.

This evening of Odissi dance explores the many ways of Bhakti to Lord Krishna. As a devotee I adore the Lord and praise his name drowning in the bliss of His sweet name. As a jilted lover I am pained by the Lords disdain and scorn at his unfaithfulness. And as a friend I revel in the Lord's lila as his equal companion in the
divine game. This complex relationship with Lord Krishna, the agony and ecstasy of loving Him, will be staged through some of Padmashri Guru Mayadhar Raut's landmark choreographic compositions.Padmashri Guru Mayadhar Raut's dance style is Bhava Pradhan and his compositions are known for the intricacy of movement, subtlety of thought and an extensive use of Mudras. Guruji has played a major role in giving Odissi its classical status and has enriched the Odissi repertoire with a number of creative innovations such as the study of the Mudra usage in Odissi, Sanchari bhava and the introduction of the Shringara Rasa Ashtapadis from the Geet Govinda.

Madhumita Raut is the torchbearer of the Guru Mayadhar Raut Paddhati of Odissi. A committed and keen scholar Madhumita is the author of a landmark book on Odissi- ‘Odissi What Where and How’. An intense and spontaneous dancer, she has also emerged as a dedicated scholar and a passionate guru. Her students are now established dancers in their own right. In her quest to promote and propagate Odissi, Madhumita has performed in over 29 countries, has composed and choreographed both traditional and contemporary works and teaches widely in New Delhi, Germany, Holland, U.S.A and Japan.

Aadya Kaktikar is a senior disciple of Madhumita Raut and Mayadhar Raut. A solo artist for more than a decade now, and has over the years established herself as a dedicated dancer, from the Mayadhar Raut Gharana. Aadya’s performance is notable for her strong sense of ‘Taal’, deft footwork, lyrical movements and intense ‘Abhinaya’ while maintaining the purity of the dance form, which is characteristic of Guru Mayadhar Raut’s style. Her dance is a true image of her legendary Guru’s Style.

For the last twenty years, Aadya has performed extensively in major festivals and received critical acclaim. Her repertoire consists of masterpiece compositions of her Guru focusing on Bhakti Shringaar Rasa. Aadya is the author of Guru Mayadhar Raut’s biography 'Odissi Yaatra'. The book is illustrated with rare photos and gives a detailed account of the history of Odissi dance especially the dynamic years of the 40s, 50s to the 70s.

Aadya is pursuing a Masters in (Teaching) Dance, from the Royal Academy of Dance, University of Surrey, London. She is currently working as Assistant Professor, Deptt. Of Arts, Design and Performing Arts at the Shiv Nadar University, India.
