Event Description : Delhi Karavan presents "Heritage Baithak on Shehzadi  Jahan Ara"- At Humayun's Tomb

In our next Baithak we shall have a rendezvous with Shehzaadi e Jahaan Jahan Ara Begum Saheba , the beloved daughter of Shah Jehan and Mallika e Jehan Mumtaz Mahal, the stunning princess.

A French traveler François Bernier, who visited India in that period, wrote, “Shahjahan reposed unbounded confidence in this his favorite child; she watched over his safety, and was so cautiously observant, that no dish was permitted to appear upon the royal table which had not been prepared under her superintendence.” Italian traveler Niccolao Manucci, another witness of those times, wrote, “Jahanara was loved by all, and lived in a state of magnificence.” An embodiment of simplicity and humility combined with exquisite beauty, she was referred to as 'fakeera' ascetic by pilgrims.

Her generosity is compared with the bounty of God by certain poets. Till today women of all ages and creed make fervent prayers and remember her in tough times.
A power broker in court of two emperors, her tales are innumerable and Delhi Karavan wishes to transport you in the times of this learned lady India once was blessed to have.

"If time and logistics permit, we shall also attempt to visit the grave of Shehzadi Jahan Ara at Dargah of Hazrat Nizamuddin Aulia

NOTE: The Baithak shall be led by Madhu Singh. She has been an intrinsic part of the karavan since we made our humble beginnings at Lal kot. An extremely knowledgable yet humble, armed with an innocuous smile , she has been a pillar in our endeavours , we refer her lovingly as 'madhupedia' for the enormous knowledge she possesses. We look forward for your presence for this enriching and memorable experience with us
