Event Description : Sri Geetagovinda Pratisthana, Puducherry is presenting the Third Edition of The Nritya Bharati Festival.
Nritya Bharati endeavors to preserve and promote the heritage of each dance form in its pristine pure form with equal emphasis on geeta, sahitya, raga, tala, vadya and Nritya with a special focus on abhinaya, retaining complete fidelity to the classical traditions. The Festival also encourages use of various regional classical musical traditions of India in their typical styles in the accompanying music for the dance performances.
For the Third Edition of Nritya Bharati, some of the very senior practitioners of Indian classical dance along with some the promising young artistes will perform. Renowned dancers Padma Bhusan Swapnasundari will present Vilasini Natyam and Prerana Shrimali Kathak, established artistes Sujata Mohapatra and Neena Prasad will perform Odissi and Mohiniyattam respectively while from the younger generation Jyotsna
Jagannathan will present Bharata Natyam and this year’s Bismillah Khan Puraskar awardee Naren Boruah will present Sattariya dance of Assam. Dr Subas Pani, writer, translator and scholar with research interest in Jagannatha, Jayadeva and Geetagovinda has curated the Festival as its Creative Director.
As in previous editions the Festival will present a Complete Experience of Indian Classical Dance forms. This unique cultural event has already carved a niche for itself as a major platform for Solo Dance presentations and since it has moved to the national capital last year, it has become a part of the cultural calendar of Delhi.
The first edition of the Festival held at Puducherry on the 27th and 28th of Feb. 2010 and the second edition held on the 28th, 29th and 30th of January 2011 at Kamani Auditorium, New Delhi received overwhelming response. Top artistes of different classical dance forms have performed for Nritya Bharati. These include Priyadarsini Govind, Gopika Varma, Priya Venkatraman, Sharmila Biswas, Aruna Mohanty, Bina Devi and Deepak Maharaj among others. With its two editions, the festival has created a name and niche for itself as a major and unique platform for solo performances in major Indian classical dance forms.
