The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) is organising a ten-hour long annual Rath Yatra on Saturday at Rohini from 11 am onwards. Symbolizing the confluence of Indian culture, the Rohini's edition of Lord Jagannath’s Rath Yatra will take place from the NIMS college (Netaji Subhash palace, Wazirpur) and will proceed towards Japanese Park (Opp. E.S.I. hospital, Sec-10, Rohini) via Kohat Enclave, Madhuban chowk, Rohini Court, Antariksh apartment, D.C. Chowk, Sachdeva Public School culminating the whole procession by 7pm at Japanese park (Sec-10).
This is one of the biggest events, where Lord Jagannath moves out of his temple along with brother Balaram and sister Subhadra to give darshan to devotees. During the yatra, ISKCON members would sing bhajans, dance in Kirtans, maha-aarati and distribute prasadam. The devotees will offer their choicest services from lamps to ‘chappan bhog’ and will also have the opportunity to perform aarati. More than 1 lakh participants are likely to take part in the procession with more than seven tons of sumptuous prasadam to be distributed to the public.
This Rath yatra festival has been traditionally celebrated annually in Jagannath Puri, Odisha, where Lord Jagannath along with His sister Subhadra and elder brother Baladeva paraded through the streets of the city. The first Rath yatra outside India was initiated by A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada (founder of ISKCON) in 1967 in San Francisco. The Lord of the Universe (Lord Jagannath) now parade in major cities all over the world such as London, Paris, New York, Durban, Rome, Moscow etc. People around the globe are becoming attracted to the joyful and colorful Rath yatra festival. And thus, thousands throng the streets to pull the giant chariots, chant and dance and enjoy tasty prasad given to all joining in a celebration.
