BACKGROUND & SALIENCIES : § Although ‘officially’ in its 4th year, Holi Cow Festival has been around for over 6 years. What started out as a small, ‘underground’ festival - celebrating Holi with music and art - has become one of the biggest festivals of its kind.
§ From 5 artistes and a small audience of 85 people, the festival now attracts over 50 artistes and over 4000 revelers from all parts of the World.
§ Holi Cow Festival started with the idea of creating a happy eco-system of artistes and art lovers who want to celebrate and express their love and passion freely without commercial compulsions. That is the reason that most artistes have volunteered to perform every year without their commercial fees. In the words of Invicible Quest, the band from Berlin, “We have been following up on the festival for the last 3 years. We find it one of the most unique music festivals in the world. Tradition meets modernity here in a creative space.” Adds Nida Mahmood who is designing the look of the festival this year, “The festival’s look this year has been inspired by the quirks and colour of the Indian streets. Its kitsch meets Indian tradition.”
§ This year Holi Cow goes fatter. Instead of a single days celebrations, plans are afoot to bring in the madness with grafitti artists, Moo Mama Puppet Theatre. This year Holi C ow also offers a Moo Yatra- a colourful motorcycle parade around town with over 100 bikers, 4 days before Holi to officially mark off the festivities, a live wall art project in Haus Khaz and walks in Old Delhi.
§ On Holi, this year Holi Cow Fest is hoping to showcase over 50 artistes, musicians, painters, graffiti artistes, puppeteers, performers, poets, dancers etc across 3 stages – Moo Stage (Live Rock, Jazz, World Music, Reggae Bands, theater, musicals etc), Flew Stage (Eclectic and experimental music) and Glue Stage (Electronica)
·         Holi Cow raised funds to sponsor the education in performing arts for 60 children last year in association with Fender School of Music. This year the festival hops to raise enough funds for 200 such scholarships in association with Swechha, the NGO as well as the Fender School of Music.
