Smita Bharti

Smita Bharti, a Rotary World Peace Fellow, a Special Fellow WISCOMP, Senior Fellow Literature, KK Birla Foundation, is the Executive Director, Sakshi, a regd NGO working for violence against women and non violent action. She is a co founder of Hungry Heart Festival, a regd theatre society focussed on theatre for social change.

She has Written, Directed and Performed over 27 theatre projects, mainstreaming gender, equality and diversity and promoting non violent action. A few of her performances include Satchidananda [work in progress], Rubaru: Raj Kapur in Russia, As the Sun Sets, Rooh ka Ghar and The Most Important Question, Blind Date, Nun and the Prostitute, 45”35”55”,  Jailbirds.

Her Film experience includes scripting, directing and producing over 20 films ranging from one minute advocacy films to documentary and features. The focus was on mainstreaming gender/ marginalized and promoting diversity. Some of the Projects include One minute films on Sexual Harassment, Leadership, Judicial Education, Sexuality, A documentary on responsible sexuality “Mirror Mirror on the Wall Who am I After All?” , SEE ME SEE YOU, A Documentary on Disability and Inclusiveness, “Hide and Seek”, Documentary on the inner worlds of conflict in urban children. She is currently working on commissioned scripts for 2 short feature films.

Her experience in television and radio includes Sesame Street-Unicef project- Meena Radio – 160-episode Radio-serial, a forthcoming adventure series – ‘Bujho toe Jano’ for channels, Pogo and Nickelodeon, Miditech-Unicef mega initiative ‘Facts for Life’ translated into a serialized TV-soap, ‘Kyunki Jeena Issi Ka Naam Hai…’ [Season- II]  and Pili Andhi  [script and screenplay].
