True spirituality is attained by shedding your negativity and Art, which has a profound influence on our body, mind, and psyche, is one of the ways of doing just that said Reela Hota,the curator of International Ancient Arts Festival/Symposium held recently.
Rays of Wisdom Society, founded by Reela Hota, organized a 2 day festival/symposium at  10th-11th April,2010 at  Azad Bhawan Auditorium,ICCR, to  promote and propagate ancient cultural heritage and to rekindle spirituality in the individual and thereby society. The festival combined talks and performances in a novel manner and featured a varied range of folk and classical performances across the globe. It gave the audience a rare opportunity to understand the benefits, significance and nuances of various art forms form respected scholars.
H.E. Shri Tejendra Khanna, Lieutenant Governor, Delhi, accompanied by his wife, Mrs Uma Khanna, inaugurated the festival/symposium. In his address, he stressed on the role of art to bring peace to the individual and to the society at large. For the first speaker, Dr H. S   Shiva Prakash, the tragedy in theatre work as catharsis of emotions. This was followed by followed by a performance of multi-instrumental Celtic music by Thomas Sullivan who had travelled all the way from Ireland to participate in this festival.
Bhai Baldeep Singh enlightened the audience  with a most thoughtful and interesting talk on The Origins of Gurbaani which was followed by The Shabad Kirtan in Gurmat Sangeet by Bhai Jaswant Singh ji from Harimandir Sahib, Golden Temple, Amritsar. Their music was simply divine and was enjoyed by all irrespective of caste and creed.  Alka Tyagi explained how evolved women saints from history have expressed their devotion through poetry. The last act was a joyful Rasa Leela performance by Charkula Arts Academy from Mathura.
The next day’s morning session was inaugurated by Shri Ravindra Singh, Principle Secretary, PWD, Govt. of UP. The morning session started off wonderfully well with a Lecture cum demonstration on The Effect of Raga on the mind presented by Dr. T V Sairam ,with sound examples touched upon the rich traditional healing concepts and practices relating o Nada yoga and Nada chikitsa. This was followed by a short but moving performance   of  Carnatic Flute by G S Rajan.  Talks by student- scholars,  Amit Singh and  Bhoomika Meiling were most touching. Their presentation 'Healing Aspects of Native American Poetry' dealt with the anger, resistance, memory and resilience of the Native American people that has crystallized into a powerful healing experience in their poetry in the twentieth century. Swami Dharmanand touched upon the therapeutic aspect of colors while S Karmegam talked about the healing rituals of the Kannikar tribes. The session concluded with a talk by Dr Urmimala Sarkar Munsi ,who explained the soothing effect of dance therapy on the physically abused children
 The final evening of the 2 day festival was inaugurated by Dr. Christy L. Fernandez, Secretary to President of India who lauded the effort of the organisors.  The evening programme began with a lecture- demonstration by Tripura Kashyap, who has done commendable work with children with disabilities. She said that dance and movement enrich our lives. The more we dance, the more human we are. This was followed by a performance of Western Classical Dance by Fernando Aguilera Dance Company .The second part of the evening opened with a Lecture by Dr Sudha Gopalakrishnan who looked at the changing dynamics of kutiyattam the most ancient example of Sanskrit theatre in India through different phases of history and illustrated the performance grammar through a demonstration by, Aditi Gopalakrishnan which was followed by a marvelous act by Margi Madhu . Guru Gangadhar Pradhan Foundation’s Odissi was a fitting finale to the event.
 In one viewer’s words, “we could feel the deep devotion in the ragis from Harimandir Saheb sitting still and majestic on the stage. It really created a awe inspiring and somber feeling in us’.Sadhana Srivastava compered the event beautifully. This event was supported by Kerala Tourism, U.P Tourism, SGPC and NDMC with Media Partner, Doordarshan.
