- Time : 10:00 am – 7:30 pm ( 4th to 20th July )
- Opening on 3rd July at 7:00 pm
- Event Details : Osian’s Connoisseurs of Art presents Osian Asian II: Select Masterpieces of Indian and Asian Art from The Osian’s Archive and Library Collection
- Osian’s exhibits a small selection of its magnificent art collection in Osian Asian II. This exhibition includes Asian art works from Japan, China, Tibet, Nepal, Cambodia and India and spans artistic traditions from the B.C. period to the 20th century. The exhibition traces the parallel journey of art and civilization and establishes a dialogue between Asian cultures. ‘If you do not know and respect your history and culture, embedding such in the present, our contemporary relevance will always vacillate in disequilibrium’ the words of Neville Tuli, Founder- Chairman Osian’s, which have become the inspiration for building a collection par excellence of antique Asian art.
- This exhibition has his eclectic mix of art objects representing myriad styles, mediums and cultures. The art works in this exhibition include the finest collection of Japanese Samurai helmets in private hands in addition to an ever growing collection of armour and arms, Japanese dolls from the Edo and Meiji periods, Chinese and Japanese erotica, the finest Thangkas and Paubhas from Tibet and Nepal, as well as rare examples of Indian sculpture and miniature paintings from the Pahari Schools.
- The highlights include early 13-18th century Tibetan & Nepali Thangkas from the famed Jucker Collection acquired in 2007, the set of fifty Kabuto or helmets (16th to 19th century) used by the great Samurai warriors of Japan which are being exhibited for the first time. The diversity of styles and the superlative craftsmanship of the Kabuto displayed alongside Japanese full body armour provides a rare glimpse into the complex and hierarchical world of the Japanese Samurai warrior. India is represented by some of the finest miniature paintings from the Pahari and Rajasthani Schools and continuing with this tradition of a dialogue between cultures, on exhibit is a painting of the tomb of Jehangira Khan at Najibabad by the famous British artist Thomas Daniells. This exhibition represents a small part of the continuously growing collection of some of Asia’s finest antiques, which have now found a permanent home at Osian’s.
