  • Curated by : Mayank Mansingh Kaul & Himanshu Verma
  • Time : 10.00 am to 6.00 pm ( Closed on 19th Sunday. Open till 10 pm on 16th August )
  • Event Info : A special exhibition on fashion (textiles, garments and accessories) inspired by the monsoon, featuring some of the country’s leading designers and artists, as well as some young talent.
  • In India, every season classically has its own fashion repertoire and Indian textiles & clothing traditions have been heavily informed with the motives of nature. This show seeks to showcase some traditional work reflecting this season-fashion connect, as well as fashion rooted in contemporary sensibilities addressing the same, which perhaps, again is often influenced by historical ideas and representations of the Monsoon, but also expresses the need for the individual to imagine without inhibitions, and takes as it reference radically different propositions like contemplation of everyday situations, and modern city-scapes. Much in the vein of the general drift of the festival, the show presents the classical and the contemporary, and the in between. Hence, while it shows work that heavily relies on the classical imagination of the Monsoon, and on Indian techniques, styles and motifs; it also presents some fresh approaches to the idea of fashion for the monsoon.
  • The multi-media fashion installations explore the thematic variedly: through the use of colours, thematic elements like the peacock, or innovative monsoon accessories like raincoats, umbrellas specially designed for the show.
  • While the main idea of the show is to celebrate the monsoon in its multi-layered and multi-hued delight, the attempt is to also enable fashion in contextualising itself as a valid medium in the visual arts stream – something that is only beginning to happen in India recently. Merging boundaries of the traditional/contemporary, collective/individual processes and the inner and outer world; the show highlights the imaginative ways in which fashion itself can be a tool to push boundaries of experiencing and story telling.
